Equality is the result. Universities are relatively small and focus on a wide range of research areas, just like the Dutch university landscape is structured right now. Universities are spread all over the country, from Maastricht, to Nijmegen, to Groningen.
Innovation policy is generic. It aims to stimulate small and existing companies to launch incremental innovation. Innovation subsidies and credits are important tools. Subsidies for researchers help to translate new technology into local goods and services. Innovation credits are important to help credit constrained companies bring new products to the market.
Egalitarian Ecologies (Knowledge economy)
Variety and dispersal characterise egalitarian ecologies. Economic activity spreads out over medium-sized cities that host medium-sized firms.
