Publication > Part I: Towards 2040 > Students survey
How do the students see the Netherlands of 2040? Out of 10 possible scenario's they choose the Netherlands as a Randstad Metropolis and specialisation of work as the most likely future scenario's. Scenario's in which the Netherlands does not exist anymore or in which everybody works part time are the least likely according to the students.
Each pupil was asked his or her opinion on 10 positions. The scores run from 0 (totally disagree) to 5 (totally agree).
The Dutch students expect shining prosperities for themselves. The occupations they are anticipating on, for after their school-life, are the ones they expect to earn the highest wages. Both concerning their study-direction and the expected wages in 2040 the medical, economic and technical sectors score the highest rates. Wages do not seem to be the most important reason behind their choice of study-direction. Considering job characteristics wages score fourth after challenging work, autonomy and freedom and job security.
Study-direction is measured by the number of students. Highest wages is a frequency, each pupil has 3 choices.
